2006 news roundup...
2006
was definitely a quiet year for Cilla fans but
it does at least end with a flurry of
activity as not only is one of Cilla's hit singles
featured in a new TV commercial but she appears
as a guest on a popular TV show and hosts a
radio tribute to Cliff. |

Let's start off with
the fabulous news that Ferrero Rocher (the Italian hazelnut chocolate confections) have chosen Cilla's
Something Tells Me as the theme to their latest TV advertising
campaign. This single was Cilla's
biggest hit of the 1970s and also used as the theme to her 5th series of BBC TV shows. When
released in November 1971 it stayed amongst the UK best-sellers longer
than any 'Cilla' single had done since her #1 smash You're My World.

As an understatement this
sort of exposure is invaluable as it reminds the
British public that there is more to Cilla Black than just her 1980s
pop-blunder Surprise, Surprise. Putting the 1980s and
'90s aside Cilla has during the new millennium been working on some
crackin' music projects which includes her club revamps of Something
Tells Me &
Step Inside Love
as well as a comeback album
Beginnings.
Someone else to recognise
the potential in the classic Cook and Greenaway penned tune is former Spice Girl Emma Bunton.
She
released her version
of it in November 2006 as a B-side to the BBC's Children in Need charity single.

Other
news...
Cilla
has narrated a BBC Radio 2 biography tribute to her
long-time friend Sir Cliff Richard. This three-part profile Cliff: Take Another
Look starts on the 12 December at 20.30 and features an
interview with the evergreen star and many of his hit songs.
In
mid-December 2006, Cilla also filmed an appearance on the last ever series of the BBC2 show
Room 101. This is expected
to air on the channel in January 2007. For those who didn't know Room 101 was the room in
which George Orwell's 1984 contained "the worst things in the
world". The TV-adapted show hosted by comedian Paul Merton
finds
guest stars banishing their pet hates to the depths of
Room 101.

And Finally,
Bradley Walsh hosted a
3-hour show on the 9 September 2006 revealing the poll positions of
50 actors, presenters and comedians who have been entertaining us over
the last 50 years. This definitive Top 50
poll was compiled from votes cast by the British viewing public on
ITV.com and TV Times magazine. Cilla ranked in the poll
at number 36.
