Surprisingly Cilla [Cover Artwork]

Surprisingly Cilla is the title of Cilla Black's twelfth solo studio album. It was a spin-off from her British TV show Surprise, Surprise and built around its theme tune.

The album was conceived primarily as a marketing ploy which would capatilise on the runaway success of the TV show. Towerbell selected the song material to fit in with the remit of the show as it was to be the prime vehicle to promote it. Cilla was notably re-united for this project with her former EMI producer David Mackay but unlike their previous collaborations the producer and artist were not given any creative control.

Although Cilla heavily promoted the album and its two singles they failed to chart. The ill-fated project then vanished into obscurity some months after release as Towerbell Records shutdown.

Re-Release

An attempt was made in 2003 to re-issue the album on CD but it was then discovered that the master tapes for the project were lost. The re-issue project was therefore abandoned.
